My Reaction to 回到三国 Three Kingdoms RPG [Spoiler Alert]

My usual post about my reaction to the drama but this time it will be a little different....

I was reading various reviews and summaries online, and I found a lot of them consisted of inaccurate information. Also reading other's comments, I realized, there is quite a lot of criticism and misunderstandings towards, Three Kingdoms and the various characters. My friend and I were talking about the drama and she said, she had done some research and realized, the way they portrayed the characters were off. I don't exactly agree with her. I feel the characters were more or less portrayed the way they have always been known for. This lead me to think, did she read some of these misleading posts that are online? I decided to include something extra in this post, not to dis others, and not to prove them wrong, but I just wanted to clear up some misunderstandings. I'm not saying I know everything, and I don't mean to offend anyone else. If you feel offended, I am really sorry. And if you feel that I'm wrong, don't be afraid to tell me (in the comments below). I'm always open to what you have to say.

I have just finished watching the drama, and a lot of the information is still fresh in my head. Also I have my Chinese school history text book to reference and back up my points. Hopefully this will give insight to everyone! (and of course, a lot of my own personal opinions as well)

oh and always....
[SPOILER ALERT!!!!]

Plot

This first section here will be about plot.

First things first, Kenneth Ma's character, the frivolous and impetuous Sima Xin (Sima Shun) is a fictional character in the drama. He is not a historical figure, and should not be mistaken to be the historical figure, Sima Yan, who would later unite the Three Kingdoms.

Sima Shun and the maid Song Yau's love story is not going to end well (what is with TVB and bad endings??) One review I have read claims that, after Sima Shun abandons Song Yau she remarries.

So here's the final episode(24) ending... [MAJOR SPOILER]

During the Battle of Red Cliff, Sima Shun takes Song Yau to the portal that would take him back to Hong Kong. The portal though, only take Sima Shun and not Song Yau so therefore she was left behind. Back in Hong Kong, he realizes he had left for two years during his time travel. 30 years in the modern world passes, and Sima Shun is now 60 years old. Through the years, he has become the boss of a successful restaurant franchise, but he had not forgot about Song Yau and his time travel to Three Kingdoms. Throughout the years he always watched for typhoons to happen, hoping he would be able to see the portal and travel back in time again. He finally saw it when he was 60 years old. Unfortunately, he dies of a heart attack as he tries to get to the portal. He doesn't make it..... but a little surprise, Song Yau, comes through the portal and sees the body of Sima Shun. Tragic, Tragic ending...

Kenneth Ma: "Look that blue light! The way back home!"

Song Yau (Tavia) coming through the portal.

:'( Tear, Tear. I really think Tavia a is good actor with potential. Her crying scenes are bone chilling. She's so good! And those big tears! How her face changes and her eyes well up, yup, real crying there!

Next part about the plot would be my question from seeing this picture:

http://www.ihktv.com/sudden-885-threekingdomsrpg.html

According to this site, it said that Sima Shun was helping Zhu Ge Liang, but Zhu Ge Liang sent him to jail. Sima Shun escaped and went to Cao Cao. He later realizes Cao Cao was the not reliable. This was posted July 13, 2012. My question is.... where in the drama was this? I mean I know I skipped two episodes (14, 15) but according to the post this was somewhere around the Battle of Red Cliff time...

Guessing this is the part, and from memory, Sima Shun doesn't go to jail because of Zhu Ge Liang...
Sima Shun in the episode, made Sun Quan angry and wanted to kill Sima Shun. Zhu Ge Liang and Liu Bei begged for Sima Shun's life. As a result, they came to the compromise to kick Sima Shun out of Sun Quan area and was to never step foot in the territory again. If he did they would kill him. Sima Shun left Zhu Ge Liang and Liu Bei. One night he was caught by two men (Hon's men) and wanted him to help Cao Cao. Sima Shun didn't want to so they caught Song Yau as well, to threaten Sima Shun to help Cao Cao. Sima Shun being from the future would know Cao Cao is not reliable so he definitely wouldn't realize this point later. I really don't remember Sima Shun going to jail because of Zhu Ge Liang. I just remember him being in jail for a short while, but that was because Cao Cao found out he was hiding his identity and about where he is from. Unless I am wrong. Please correct me if I am. I am slightly confused about this..........my guess is TVB decided to change the script last minute? oh also I read somewhere that this drama was 25 episode long but ended at 24... again... TVB decided to cut it short and just end it??

Drama Overall

This drama, overall, was good at giving viewers an idea about Three Kingdoms (三国), historical happenings and historic events all in a short amount of time. Many feel that this drama is boring, or wasn't as exciting... well it is a historical fiction drama. Majority of people don't like history, think it's boring and maybe that's why many feel this drama dragged. I love history so I didn't mind, also I watched other dramas about 三国, those dramas were 95 or 100+ episodes! Talk about long. Believe me, this has been the shortest drama on three kingdoms. Other dramas don't just stop after the Battle at Red Cliff, it goes on and on until Sima Yan unites the three kingdoms Wei, Shu and Wu. Okay enough of boring history talk, haha. So in conclusion, I liked the drama, short and to the point. Wouldn't say it was good or my favorite, but a decent. It takes a lot to film a drama for us, so I'm grateful for all the TVB actors, actresses, script writers, directors and all those who could have made this drama happen. Only thing about this drama is, I just wish the ending was better!

Oh and comparing it to 寻秦记 Step into the past? I won't compare, both have their qualities. A step into the past may have been more exciting but it's because of the historical content. A step into the past is about fighting to the throne and uniting China while Three Kingdoms RPG is about the political, military tactics.

This has gotten quite long... oops, still want to do a events, character comparison. Next post!

Last thing...
If history really isn't your thing, watch it for Raymond, Kenneth and Tavia! All you Raymond, Kenneth Tavia fans! Support Support! Or better yet, watch it for a chok Zhu Ge Liang! LOLOLOL

Second episode: "chok...真chok, 诸葛亮好chok!" (ROFL Kenneth)
